Friends and Family
Please let us share a little about our son, Brett, with you. Where do we begin? There is so much to tell you in such a short space that we will condense as much as possible. Brett was a child in a grown-ups world. Ever since he was small, Brett was surrounded by adults and showed intelligence beyond his years. Not surprising, when Brett was younger he was a “little cowboy.” Some of his very first words were “tractor,” “cotton,” and “truck.” Brett aspired to be a singer and could sing just about any country/western song on the radio. One day he told us he would become a singer and his name would be John Buckle. He loved to dance, he loved to sing, he loved life and brightened everyone’s world, especially ours. Brett had imaginary friends and their names were Simon, Theodore, and Alvin. Not surprising, Brett won several extemporaneous speaking contests as he grew up. He was also active in UIL One-Act-play and the Bee County Livestock Show.
As Brett grew, we saw a natural artistic ability. He loved reading Southern Living Magazines and drawing floor plans. He was gifted beyond imagination. Brett could free-style any picture he saw and amazed everyone with his talents.
When Brett was nine and we found out we were expecting a baby, we could not wait to share the news. Brett was so excited he told us that if it were a boy, we would name him “Charlie” and if a girl then we would call her “Ruthie.” Brett had everything figured out. Those are the memories we will cherish always.
Brett LOVED Cars! From about seven years old, Brett would sit in everyone’s vehicles for hours and pretend he was driving. He knew everything there was to know about cars! He collected cars, he researched cars on the Internet, and he bought magazines with cars. If anyone ever had a question about cars, Brett knew the answers! Brett was so excited to get his first car at age sixteen.
After graduation, Brett spent time doing volunteer work at the Art Museum in Beeville and worked various jobs in Beeville and Corpus. He really dreamed of a move to San Antonio. We told him that once he got a job there, he could move. In only Brett fashion, he secured a job at Starbucks in his first interview. Brett was so proud to be on his own. Brett made many friends in San Antonio and loved sharing stories with our family.
Brett was dedicated to family and friends and no matter how challenging circumstances could be at times; he always figured ways to conquer those challenges. We are better people because of him and were so proud to see how much he influenced others. We miss him terribly and ask the Lord to give us comfort in these darkest of days.

Being a substitute teacher at
Skidmore/Tynan High School, I saw
Brett maybe 2-3 days a week, but no matter where at school I saw him, hall, class room or cafeteria, he always had a ready smile and a friendly hello. He will always remain in my mind as one of the high school's brightest
lights. When he worked at H.E.B.,I always looked for him to check me out at the checkout, as he always called me by name, and he brightened my day each time I
saw him. He is one young man any one could be proud of, and I was so happy to call him my friend.

It's hard to believe that Brett has been gone for 10 years. He was the most polite young man ever. The apple of his great grandparents and Uncle Emils eyes!!!! Always happy, such an inspiration to everyone. He touched the lives of so many and made friends so quickly. I think of him often and of his awesome family. I know he is with uncle Emil n grandma n grandpa Fojtik, and the rest of our family above. Today, I think about and pray for all that he left behind. Love you guys! Butch
